19 Apr Ecosystem Founder Encourages Students to Major in Environmental Engineering
ZAMBOANGA CITY — Ecosystem Founder, President, and CEO Robert Y. So encouraged senior high school students of the Western Mindanao State University to take up Environmental Engineering during his talk entitled “A Degree To Save the World : Engineering for Humans in a Less Habitable Planet.”
The Filipino inventor underscored that in this age of climate change where the planet is less and less hospitable to humans due itself to human activities, environmental engineers are key towards mitigating the effects of climate change, as well as limiting the causes for it.
Mr. So further shared that there is currently a great local demand in the private sector for environmental engineers, specifically to perform the key role of Pollution Control Officers (PCOs) in all the developments around the country. At present, the PCOs are being staffed by employees even without any engineering backgrounds.
The Western Mindanao State University is one of the educational institutions in the Philippines that offer the Environmental Engineering degree program. The forum on careers for Environmental Engineers held last February 21, 2018 was intended to increase awareness about the program and the need for professionals in this field.
